United Arab Emirates, 3 February 2018 – Dr. Khaled Al Suwaidi embarked on his inspiring ultra-marathon from Fujairah Terminals at 6am today to support the fight against cancer. The course of The Rahma Run will pass through Khalifa Port and end at Zayed Port.
Mr. Abdullah Salem Al Kaabi General Director of Cancer Patient Care Society – Rahma, commented “This is an important moment for everyone involved, and we’re excited to see how Dr. Khaled progresses. More important though is the charitable incentive and the reason that we’re all here supporting both Khaled & his initiative to help cancer patients receive treatment and information about cancer, while educating the community regarding the types, causes and prevention of cancer.
Abu Dhabi Ports was announced as the first organisation to support The Rahma Run as both the Logistics Partner, in addition to helping raise funds for Cancer Patient Care Society – Rahma.
H.E Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council stated,”This challenge is a testament to the impact of sport on the lifestyle of the individual in society, the challenge is not limited to Dr. Khalid Al-Suwaidi physical endurance but it helps to direct light on charitable and humanitarian work and the role of sport in supporting the approach of giving. It furthermore highlights the great work done by the Society for the Care of Cancer Patients – Rahma and the great work they do in providing support for their patients, families and friends. We at Abu Dhabi Sports council & wish him all the best”
Before embarking on his run, Dr. Khaled commented “I can’t wait to get started. All of my training has been leading up to this moment and I just want to get out there and start running. Throughout this journey, I’ve been spurred on by the amazing people involved with Rahma and their stories will hopefully help carry me from one coast to another.”
The Rahma Run is also supported by NMC Healthcare, REVIV, Cryo Abu Dhabi and Simple Café, and is the first initiative of its kind.
Dr. Khaled is currently being accompanied by his coach, a physiotherapist, a paramedic and chef, who will travel in an RV on the 327-kilomtre route supported by two safety cars.
